New Cairo is where a lot of foreigners end up, and usually for the same reasons: it is new, it is planned, and it is easy to understand. Streets are wide, buildings are recent, and most people live inside gated compounds with their own security, greenery and parking.
It is spread out. That is the trade-off. Life here assumes you have a car or use ride-hailing daily. In exchange you get space, quiet and a standard of building that is closer to what many people arriving from abroad expect.
New Cairo is good for

Compound living. Malls rather than markets, cafés rather than street corners. Calm, green and residential, with the social life concentrated in clubs, compounds and shopping districts.
Getting around
Car-dependent. Ride-hailing apps work well and are widely used. Distances between neighbourhoods inside New Cairo itself are significant, so where exactly you live matters.
